This week, practice getting out of your own way. Listen more than you speak. Ask questions instead of just waiting to share your story. Celebrate someone else's win without making it about you. Help without expecting recognition. Admit when you're wrong instead of defending yourself. Humility doesn't mean you're less valuable. It means you're secure enough not to constantly prove it. Nature isn't just nice to have. It's essential for your well-being.
Communing with nature means connecting with the natural world—trees, water, sky, greenery, fresh air. It's stepping away from screens and concrete and giving your nervous system a break. And the health benefits? They're backed by science. Time in nature reduces stress, lowers blood pressure, boosts mood, improves focus, strengthens your immune system, and helps you sleep better. It's not woo-woo. It's biology. Your body is wired to respond to nature. And when you give it that connection, everything functions better.
When you're disconnected from nature, you feel it. More stress. More anxiety. Less energy. Harder to focus. Your nervous system stays in fight-or-flight mode because you're constantly surrounded by noise, artificial light, and stimulation. Nature gives your brain permission to rest. It activates your parasympathetic nervous system—the part that calms you down and helps you recover. Studies show that just 20 minutes in nature can significantly lower cortisol (your stress hormone). Walking in green spaces improves memory and attention. Being near water reduces anxiety. Sunlight regulates your circadian rhythm and boosts vitamin D. Fresh air improves lung function and energy levels. Nature isn't a luxury. It's medicine.
You don't need to live in the woods or have access to hiking trails to benefit from nature. Even if you're in a city, you can find ways to connect. Add plants to your living space—they purify the air and bring nature indoors. Watch the sunrise or sunset. Notice the sky. Look for birds. Even small doses of nature add up. You don't need a forest. You just need green space, fresh air, and a few minutes of intentional connection.
Make communing with nature a regular practice, not just something you do on vacation. Go outside in the morning before you start your day. Take walking meetings instead of sitting in a conference room. Eat lunch outside when you can. End your day with a walk instead of immediately collapsing on the couch. Spend weekends exploring parks, trails, or waterfronts instead of staying indoors. Bring a book to a green space and read there instead of at home. Exercise outside when possible—running, biking, yoga in the park.
The more you prioritize time in nature, the better you feel. Your stress drops. Your mood lifts. Your focus sharpens. Your sleep improves. Your body recovers faster. It's one of the simplest, most accessible ways to improve your health. So get outside. Breathe fresh air. Notice the trees. Feel the sun. Reconnect with the natural world. Because your body needs it. And when you give it that connection, everything else gets a little easier.
